From the Matsumae Maru in 1965 to today

Our fleet management business was born in 1965 when we began managing the operations of the Matsumae Maru, a wood chip carrier owned by NYK Line. Nowadays, we manage bulk carriers, pure car and truck carriers, wood chip carriers, and a variety of other vessels as a core participant in the fleet management operations of the NYK Group. We are also commissioned to manage various vessels owned by third parties.
We currently manage over 70 vessels – the greatest number and scale of vessels managed in the history of our fleet management business.

Fleet management entails receiving permission from the owner to manage a vessel, and through this business, we maintain the owner’s valuable vessel through extremely safe and economic operations. Below are the main ways we achieve this.

  1. We observe the laws of the country that the ship is registered in and the countries where the ship calls at port
  2. We offer professional crew members who have been thoroughly trained
  3. We plan and implement quality maintenance plans that are cost competitive
  4. We offer hull insurance and P&I insurance for unexpected accidents

We offer high-quality fleet management services to achieve the above through the team efforts of our superior marine-based staff and our knowledgeable and experienced ground-based staff.

To achieve safe marine transport, we properly respond to inclement weather and mechanical troubles, and we also strive to have advanced expertise to act swiftly in the event of unexpected marine accidents in order to minimize the damage. Our marine-based staff are constantly learning about the latest information and technology through a wide range of training and application in a work setting.

Currently, Filipino crew have come to take on a large role in the operation of seafaring vessels. We have invested in Island Overseas Transport Corporation, a company based in the Philippines that supplies crews, and continue to strengthen our relationship with this company in order to constantly ensure that we are using the best of the best from the Philippines on our vessels. The Filipino crews that work on our managed fleet contribute to safe marine transport by undergoing training based on NYK Line’s high standards.

We have made safe transport and environmental measures our main concerns, and we will continue to offer high-quality, cost-effective fleet management services through reduced costs from improved production.
